Caledon East Womens' Doubles League
Welcome to the women's doubles league!

Who We Are

The league consists of a group of intermediate level tennis enthusiasts who come out on Monday evenings for some fun, social, recreational play. We play in 2 time slots: 7:00-8:30pm and 8:30-10:00pm . As we have 2 courts in Caledon East, we can accomodate 16 players per week, with 8 players per time slot.

How does it work?

Each week the league convener sends an email to the list of women who have signed up to find out who wants to play the next Monday. From the list of 'yes!' responses, players are slotted into one of the 2 times slot - efforts are made to make sure everyone gets a chance to play both time slots, and to play with a varied mix of other players.

At the start of each time slot players start warming up on court for a few minutes. There are no set teams so you can grab a spot on court wherever you like. Both courts start playing their matches at the same time. Once a team on either court wins 6 games (no tie-breaks), we split up the teams. The winning team remains on their court but the team-mates split up to become opponents. The losing team moves to the other court, also splitting up to join the players who remained there. Generally our matches last about half an hour so we get at least 2 matches in per time slot.

Sometimes we have less that a full slate of players and end up with a court that is short-handed. If that happens, the doubles court match ends when one team wins 4 games (instead of 6) so that the players on the short-handed court get to move around and into a doubles match. The short-handed court plays singles if there are 2 players or with 3 we play a variation called 'australian'.

FAQ :

Do I need to commit to play every week?
Nope! We know that everyone's schedules are fluid and we try to stay flexible. You will be polled each week about your availability. The only thing we ask is that if you have indicated that you will play in a given week, please do come and play. Last minute cancellations and no-shows make it complicated to plan and organize the weekly play.

What skill level is needed? Don't be shy, come on out and try! We have a wide range of experience and skill levels in the league - you can use the self-assessment guide below if you are unsure about your own level. Most of our players are loosely in the 2.0 - 3.0 range.

I'm not sure I'm ready for a league - are there lessons available? Although we don't usually have lessons in Caledon East, some of the clubs in neighbouring communities do have lessons for adults and will sometimes allow members of nearby clubs participate - you can check with clubs in Caledon VillageOrangevillePalgrave, and Brampton.
